Sebastian Coe, leader of the bid to bring the Olympic Games to the UK, will be the main speaker at the gala dinner during the Society of Editors' conference in Glasgow in November.
Coe, chairman of London 2012, will address editors and guests at the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery on Monday, 6 November.
The dinner is part of the society's annual conference, The Next Generation, which runs from 5 to 7 November.
Charles McGhee, president of the society and editor of The Herald in Glasgow, said: "We are delighted that such an inspirational figure as Seb Coe will speak at the dinner against the backdrop of Kelvingrove."
Other conference speakers already confirmed include BBC director general Mark Thompson, Will Lewis of the Telegraph Group, John Ryley of Sky News, Alan Rusbridger of The Guardian, Roger Alton of The Observer, and former Today programme editor Kevin Marsh.
