Chinese police have been filmed manhandling a group of journalists, prompting the Hong Kong Journalists Association to complain of “wanton violation” of press freedom in the run-up to the Olympic games.
According to the FT, a video broadcast on Chinese television late last week showed Beijing police officers throwing a journalist to the ground and pulling cameramen from ladders as they filmed the chaos surrounding the Olympic ticket sales.
The Observer, meanwhile reports that a number of foreign broadcasters travelling to the Games have been hit by bureaucracy. It says vital equipment is being delayed by customs and access to places such as Tiananmen Square is restricted.
