Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Channel 5 to launch current affairs magazine show

By Oliver Luft

Channel 5 is to launch a nightly news magazine show fronted by Kate Walsh, runner-up in the latest series of Apprentice.

Walsh will host the show alongside former Arsenal and England footballer Ian Wright and former page three girl Melinda Messenger.

The hour-long show, to be called Live From Studio Five, starts next month and promises to be a mix of discussion on news, sport and entertainment which is likely to, in-part, go up against BBC1’s One Show.

Richard Woolfe, Five’s channel controller, said: “This is news – but not as you know it. It’s a chatty, forthright spirited magazine…Every other broadcaster’s schedule at this time is totally predictable and I believe there’s a huge opportunity for a show like this which will shake things up, put Five on the map and get viewers talking about the channel.”

The show, which will be produced by Sky News and is likely to run from 6.30pm, will feature a mix of location reports, celebrity interviews, gossip and conversation around newsworthy events.
