Cancel Zimbabwe tour

By Press Gazette

The harassment of journalists in Zimbabwe is hardly new. Press Gazette has reported with increasing frequency how badly those who have dared to question its Government have been treated.

Now the harassment has spread to British cricketing journalists. Two have been expelled in the last fortnight for attempting to cover cricket matches involving Zimbabwe.

The England team is due to tour later this summer.

It’s a tour that should have been called off long ago.

As it becomes increasingly clear that Mugabe will not tolerate any form of coverage that he fears might not be positive to him, the reasons for cancelling the tour become even more compelling.

It’s time for the Government or the English Cricket Board to say no to censorship – and no to Zimbabwe’s appalling human rights record – by calling it off.
