Ed Caesar, Independent hotshot and Young Journalist of the Year, appears to be unwittingly displaying an acute sense of irony before his move over to the Sunday Times.
In a piece in Monday’s media section he tackles the spiky issue of newspapers publishing corrections.
Almost inevitably, the piece contains a clanger itself ‒ when it refers to former Guardian readers’ editor Ian Mayes as Ian Maze.
Whether this was a misfired prank guided towards the now retired Mayes, who presided over thousands of corrections in a decade in the chair, remains to be seen.
But no doubt the great man, now busy with writing the third edition of The Guardian’s official history, would have surely relished the chance to print that one.
