An Irish businessman has won the right to sue Mirror Group Newspapers for libel over a story published 10 years ago in the Irish edition of the Daily Mirror.
The Supreme Court in Dublin ruled this week that Dermot Desmond’s delay was “inordinate and inexcusable”, but said he had a right to clear his name.
The Irish Times says he is suing over a story which, according to Desmond’s writ, accused him of a number of offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Desmond had initially issued proceedings against MGN in 1998. He then put the action on hold.
