The British Society of Magazine Editors has announced the 2006 shortlists for the innovation of the year and brand building initiative of the year awards.
The editors shortlisted for innovations are: Isabel Allen of The Architects' Journal, for an X-Factor style competition for architects; John Dale, Take a Break, for the creation of the Mums' Army political party; Ally Oliver, closer.com for Closerdiets.com; Morgan Rees, Men's Health for putting a staff member on the cover in "Fat Hack to Six Pack"; Gordon Thomson, Time Out London for "Date Our Cover-Stars" and Katherine Walker, Reader's Digest for "Courtesy Test", a nationwide test of good manners.

The results will be announced at the awards dinner at The London Hilton on 14 November.
