The Sunday Mirror is to boost its showbiz coverage after poaching Ben Todd from Express Newspapers.
Todd was show business editor of the Daily Express and Daily Star – his new position at the Sunday title is assistant editor, show business.
He told Press Gazette: “I’ve done four-and-a-half years at the Express and this is a fantastic opportunity for me. I think it was about time for a change.
“They want to try to bring more showbiz to the paper and I’m there to deliver the big stories. I’ll be able to spend more time on stories and hopefully do some big interviews.”
Todd started his career on That’s Life! magazine and after six months at the News of the World he joined the Star in January 1999.
His big stories have included reporting in March this year that David Beckham would leave Manchester United. He also broke news of Robbie Willams’s £80m record deal and was first with the story that DJs Zo’ Ball and Norman Cook were back together.
Sunday Mirror editor Tina Weaver said: “Ben will be a great asset for the paper.” He replaces Polly Graham, who has moved to the News of the World.
