'Bloody despicable' sackings at BBC

The summary sacking by the BBC World Service of Arab journalists and NUJ activists Adli Hawwari and Abdul Hadi Jiad was condemned.

Deputy general secretary John Fray told the conference: “The BBC’s decision to sack two of our active members is bloody despicable. These two members have been victimised.”

General secretary Jeremy Dear claimed: “Even in the private sector, we rarely see managements behaving so appallingly.”

The conference urged NUJ members at the BBC to deliver a “massive yes” in the forthcoming strike ballot.
