The BBC is looking for teenagers interested in the arts to take part in a new scheme for reporters.
As part of its Blast initiative, which promotes involvement in activities such as music and filmmaking, people between the ages of 16 and 19 will be selected to take part in an eight-week unpaid work experience placement on the BBC’s Where I Live websites.
Successful candidates will be given the chance to write about the arts in their area, improve their writing and reporting skills as well as learn more about the media in general.
They will work closely with the journalists on the Where I Live websites from July to September 2004, on a part-time basis.
Claire McArthur, senior producer, English Regions new media, said the young reporters would be responsible for creating a Blast section on their local website that will provide weekly updates on the arts within their area.
“We are looking for reporters from a wide range of local backgrounds, who feel passionate about the arts whether it be hip-hop, bhangra, Bollywood or ballet,” she added.
