The new chairman of the BBC Trust will be paid £20,000 less than the current holder of the post.
Sir Michael Lyons, who will leave his post in May, is currently paid £131,000 for working a four-day week.
His replacement will be paid £110,000 pa for three to four days a week, bringing the total – on a pro rata basis – below the £142,500 paid to Prime Minister David Cameron. The job is currently being advertised.
The new salary level is significantly lower than the £143,000 Lyons was paid before he took on a pay cut.
