Olive magazine is to get its first international edition, in the Ukraine.
As
part of BBC Magazines commitment to overseas expansion, the food and
travel magazine will launch on 1 September with 60 per cent UK content
and 40 per cent local input.
BBC Magazines is keen to spread
its wings abroad after the curtailing of its remit in the wake of
2004's White Paper which restricted its UK growth as only magazines
linked to BBC TV could be produced by the division.
Last week
managing director Peter Phippen told the group's annual conference that
BBC niche titles may fit the international brief best, citing
publications such as BBC Wildlife, History, Music, Focus and Olive.
James
Hewes, BBC Magazines Global Licensing Manager, said: "We believe that
the Ukraine version of Olive will be a great success and we're
delighted to have on board Publishing House 3v as the first of many
international partners for the title."
The Ukrainian edition of Olive will be published by 3v with a cover price of 2,5 Euros (£1.73).
