Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

BBC Magazines appoints mobile head

By Oliver Luft

BBC Magazines has appointed Rebekah Billingsley to lead the publisher’s push to take its magazine brands onto mobile devices.

Billingsley, who is currently deputy digital director at Hachette Filipacchi will work alongside BBC Magazines’ editors, publishers and digital teams on mobile strategy.

She will report jointly to BBC Magazines’ deputy managing director, Nicholas Brett, and BBC Worldwide’s director of global digital properties, Claude London.

BBC Magazines already publishes digital versions of fifteen of its magazines following a deal last month with Zinio, the virtual magazine store.

It has also launched a range of smartphone apps for market-leading titles including Good Food and Lonely Planet city guides.

BBC Worldwide, the commercial wing of the corporation, announced late last month that it was pressing ahead with the partial sell-off of its magazine business, which publishes titles including the Radio Times and Top Gear magazines, and wanted potential buyers to make formal expressions of interest before Christmas.
