Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

BBC launches broadcasting award in memory of Radio 4 presenter

By Press Gazette

A broadcasting award will be launched this week in honour of BBC Radio 4 World at One presenter Nick Clarke who died of cancer last year.

The Nick Clarke Award will be given to the single best broadcast interview each year and will judged by senior figures from the BBC and other broadcasters. Radio 4 controller Mark Damazer will formerly launch the award at the Nick Clarke Debate at the Cheltenham Literary Festival on Saturday.

The BBC said today that the award would reward interviews that ‘left a strong impression on the audience, the provided a deeper understanding of their subject matter or that were particularly memorable.’

A spokesperson said: ‘As Nick Clarke knew better than anyone, there are many ways to get to the heart of the matter.’

The first award will cover the period from 31 July 2007 to 31 July 2008 and the closing date is 4 August 2008. The winner will receive a dozen bottles of ‘good claret”.
