Basildon Echo apologises after mix-up over sex charge picture

By admin

The Basildon Echo was forced to apologise yesterday after publishing a photograph of a man it incorrectly claimed had been charged with a sex offence.

The Newsquest-owned daily carried a story this week claiming a named man had been charged with two counts of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity.

The article was accompanied by an image the Basildon Echo incorrectly claimed was the man in question, the paper said today.

‘We unreservedly apologise for the distress that this must have caused the person whose photograph appeared, his family and friends.”

In April, the South Wales Evening Post apologised after it incorrectly identified a young man as having admitted engaging in sexual activity with two young girls.
