Yorkshire Post

By Press Gazette

The Yorkshire Post’s district news editor and columnist Anila Baig, above, is leaving the regional press to embark on a career on the nationals, writes Sarah Lagan.

Baig, winner of this year’s Regional Press Columnist of the Year Award, is joining The Sun as a feature writer. Writing from her home in Yorkshire, she will touch on subjects such as life as a single mum and being an Asian Muslim in Britain.

She said: “It’s a bit scary. People kind of recognise me from my column in Yorkshire and to have that magnified is going to be weird, but it is a fantastic opportunity.

“I want to say a big thank you to the Yorkshire Post for letting me write a column in the first place.”

Baig originally trained as a teacher, thinking that the world of journalism was too competitive, yet still had her first article published at the age of 16 in the Telegraph & Argus in Bradford. She returned to the T&A before joining the Yorkshire Post in June last year.

She takes up her new role on 20 September.
