Tribune invests in new Dublin daily

By Press Gazette

The Connaught Tribune has become a shareholder in the new tabloid paper planned for Dublin with an investment of around E500,000 (£342,000). Although the launch date remains a secret, speculation is growing that it could coincide with St Patrick’s weekend in mid-March.

The Sunday Business Post has carried a dummy on its front page with a Dublin Daily masthead rather than Dublin Daily News.

Editor of the new title, Liam Hayes, told the Post he was aiming for “a realistic and very achievable” circulation of 25,000 in the first year and 33,000 in the second.

He plans to do a lot of campaigning journalism in the paper, which will have a large features/society section to “put a mirror up to Dublin society”.

He claimed younger readers, particularly women, were not being catered for by existing titles.
