Paul Field, The Sun’s associate editor (news), has recruited one of his former colleagues to help overhaul the paper’s news operation.
Euan Stretch, currently news editor of the Sunday Mirror, is to join The Sun in a new role – executive news editor.
He will work on off-diary news, not involved in the day-to-day news editing, but focusing on investigations, court backgrounds, forward planning, and projects for the Saturday paper and Sunday for Monday.
Stretch was Field’s deputy when he news edited the Sunday Mirror. They briefly worked on the Sunday People newsdesk and first met up at the Daily Mail, where Field was a reporter and Stretch on the desk.
Field said he thought there had been a weakness in The Sun’s news operation in terms of forward planning which Stretch would help overcome.
