The Sportsman is sticking by its star columnist Kieren Fallon following race-fixing allegations.
On Monday the champion jockey was charged with conspiracy to defraud customers of online betting exchange Betfair.
A spokesman for the daily betting newspaper said: “He has his hearing with the Horse Race Association on Friday and they might well give him his license back aside from anything else because obviously it’s innocent until proven guilty in our book and obviously he’s still a massive name. He won the Irish Derby on Sunday.”
He added: “We’re very much delighted to have him on board and I think his Saturday column should be very interesting. Hopefully that’ll help with the sales.”
Ten other men were charged with similar offences, all relating to a City of London Police investigation into an alleged race-fixing plot from December 2002 to September 2004.
Fallon has a famously tumultuous relationship with the media and it was thought to be a major coup when he signed up to write a column for The Sportsman.
Fallon is due to appear before City of London Magistrates on July 17.
