Sky News has launched a video podcasting service allowing viewers to download Sky News video directly to their multimedia player.
This is the first TV news service to be made available on the video podcast platform.
Sky News video podcasting can be accessed via the Sky News website (www.sky.com/news) and is launching with 7 Days, which takes a look at the week’s lighter stories.
A library of video clips will soon be available to download, including clips from key interviews on Sunday Live with Sky News’ political editor Adam Boulton.
A weekly audio podcast from Boulton looking at the week ahead is also now available on the site. This week he asks: “Are the Lib Dems preparing for a Ming Dynasty… with Sir Menzies Campbell taking over the top job?” He also discusses whether Tony Blair will still be in No. 10 next Christmas and says the electoral maths remain against a Conservative return to power.
Steve Bennedik, editor, Sky News Interactive, said: “The launch of Sky News video podcasting follows the success of Sky Mobile TV in October last year and the new Sky-by-broadband service.
“It is part of Sky’s drive to give customers flexible and convenient ways to watch its services. Now you can enjoy Sky News on your mulitmedia player when and where you like.”
Sky Mobile, which launched in October 2005, has so far recorded five million individual TV streams of the Sky Mobile TV service onto Vodafone’s 3G phones.
