Sky News has rejigged its line-up of senior correspondents with appointments in London and Moscow.
Geoff Meade, Sky’s Russian correspondent, who has been with the broadcaster since 1995, is returning from Moscow and will be replaced by Laurence Lee, who has been promoted from reporter.
Meade has been in Moscow for three years and will take-up the post of royal and defence correspondent in the UK in October. Lee has been a reporter at Sky News for five years, during which time he has covered a broad range of foreign stories, including the Kursk disaster and the Middle East crisis. Lee will travel to Moscow at the end of August for a two-month handover period.
Senior reporter David Bowden has been promoted to London correspondent and will cover stories in the UK and worldwide. Bowden has been with Sky for eight years and most recently reported from Baghdad on the death of Saddam Hussein’s sons Uday and Qusay. During the war in Iraq, his live broadcast from the battle of Umm Qasr was carried by TV channels across the world.
Simon Cole, deputy head of Sky News, said: “All three correspondents are top-class journalists and a real asset to Sky. We’re looking forward to the freshness each of them will bring to their new role as we continue to enhance our newsgathering operation.”
Interviews will take place in September for two reporters to fill the posts vacated by Bowden and Lee. In July Sky News announced it was expanding its newsgathering operation by recruiting 17 new journalists.
