The BBC has appointed Eamon Hardy as an executive producer for current affairs (factual commissioning).
In his new role, Hardy will take over responsibility for the corporation's independent current affairs commissions.
BBC Television's commissioning editor for current affairs George Entwistle said: "Eamon has an impressive track record in current affairs and will bring considerable talent and experience to the role."
Hardy began his career at Thames TV's This Week in the late '80s, working on investigations before moving to Channel 4, where he produced films for the RTS-award winning Hard News programme.
He succeeds Lucy Hetherington, who is due to start maternity leave.
Hardy will move to the role initially on attachment for three months, before a decision is taken on the permanent position.
