Quick departure

By Press Gazette

Newspaper Society marketing director Russell Collier has abruptly departed from the organisation after less than a year.

He joined the NS in July charged with persuading advertisers to make more use of regional and local papers.

In a two-page profile in the magazine Media Week on Tuesday, Collier spoke of his plans for the next 12 months. But it emerged this week that he left the organisation the day before the article was published.

In the feature Collier said: “Even for an Australian I’m very blunt and black and white – and I will say very pointed things with a particular smile on my face. It’s one way of doing it which may not be entirely British.”

Newspaper society director David Newell said: “I’m grateful to him for his contribution to our marketing initiatives and wish him well in his future career.

Russell has stated that he enjoyed being part of the Newspaper Society team and now looks forward to new challenges.”
