The new editor of the Irish Independent, Gerard O’Regan, has appointed three new “executive editors”.
Philip Molloy, previously Independent news editor, becomes executive
editor of news, while Evening Herald journalist Shane Doran has been
made news editor of the Independent.
Two other Herald staffers
are also appointed, with Dave Courtney becoming executive editor of
sport and Frank Coughlan executive editor of features and magazines.
O’Regan was editor of the Evening Herald.
The newly appointed
executive editors will form a middle layer of management between
O’Regan and the Independent’s section editors.
O’Regan is said to have acted in order to create a more efficient organisational structure.
