Maddox to head CNNI news output

By Press Gazette

Tony Maddox has been promoted to senior vice-president of news operations for CNN International following the restructure at the company.

Previously senior vice-president of CNNI for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Maddox will move from London to the broadcaster’s US headquarters in Atlanta.

He will be responsible for integrating international newsgathering and day-to-day news operations and will oversee all 28 of CNN’s overseas bureaux, production centres, staff and resources. His brief will also include management, recruitment, training and development of the newsgathering staff.

A former head of news and current affairs at BBC Northern Ireland, Maddox will report directly to CNNI’s managing director Chris Cramer.

“Tony has demonstrated an acute grasp of the needs of CNN’s international audiences, from both an editorial and newsgathering perspective,” Cramer said of Maddox.

“His knowledge of editorial issues and his sound news instinct will play an invaluable part in this new role.”
