A former Kent journalist of the year has been dismissed for misuse of company equipment and inappropriate use of the internet.
Ian Read, news editor at the Whitstable Times , faced a disciplinary panel at Kent Regional Newspapers, part of Trinity Mirror, and was then dismissed onWednesday last week.
Trinity confirmed that an employee had been dismissed for reasons including misuse of company property and inappropriate use of the internet. The company allowed five days for an appeal.
Previously, Read was defence correspondent on the Kent Evening Post, owned by Kent Messenger Group.
He won the Shepherd Neame Kent Journalist of the Year accolade in 1998 while working for the now defunct Canterbury Times .
