Emap has brought in Closer editor Jane Johnson to work on First magazine, and is believed to be spearheading a revamp of the title.
The magazine may be getting a shake-up after failing to hit its sales target of 150,000.
According to industry sources, sales are below the 100,000 mark after just under three months on the shelves.
A spokeswoman for Emap confirmed that Johnson would be joining First editor Julian Linley. She said: "We frequently share editorial expertise around the company across our titles, and Jane Johnson has been involved with First since its early Project Jackie days alongside Fiona McIntosh and Mark Frith.
"She is currently working with Julian Linley in developing the magazine as it continues to carve out a new niche in the weeklies market."
On First's sales, she added: "Given our unrivalled launch track record we are confident in our prelaunch ambitions of selling more than 150,000 quently share editorial expertise around the company across our titles, and Jane Johnson has been involved with First since its early Project Jackie days alongside Fiona McIntosh and Mark Frith.
