The BBC claims the case for increasing the licence fee by 2.3 per
cent above inflation has been drawn up to meet the cost of the
Government’s demands for its future role, writes Hamish Mackay.
This
role includes producing original, high quality news and programmes,
further representing and serving the UK’s nations and regions and
building a digital Britain for the future.
The BBC’s national
governor of Scotland, Jeremy Peat, said “We are looking at plans for
expanded regional news services, which we hope to be able to offer to
audiences around the country, and at how we might be able to support a
Gaelic digital service. We expect BBC Scotland to offer a range of
cutting edge services in the years ahead.”
