The Herald has been named SDNS Scottish Newspaper of the Year at this year’s Scottish Press Awards.
As well as coming away with the top honour at the event run by the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society, the paper picked up awards in the cartoonist, columnist and financial categories.
Judges were “impressed by the business pages in some titles; by the clear lay-out; use of graphics and pictures; and comprehensive news and sports coverage.
The newspaper that displayed those qualities with style was The Herald”.
Herald editor Mark Douglas-Home was presented with the award by Sunday Times sports writer Hugh McIlvenney (pictured below).
The Scotsman picked up four awards including Journalist of the Year. This went to Gethin Chamberain for his reports from the Iraq war.
Full coverage of the awards will appear in next week’s issue
