Golf Monthly to launch China edition

By Press Gazette

Golf Monthly is expanding its presence overseas and launching an edition in China this month.

The title’s owner, IPC, has negotiated a licensing deal with Grand Ocean Enterprise, which will produce the title in China, as golf is becoming increasingly popular in major Chinese cities.

Grand Ocean Enterprises has a joint venture with Fametop Sport Development Company, the largest golf tournament organiser in China. It is also an official affiliate of China PGA and holds more than 20 professional and amateur golf tournaments in China annually.

A spokesman for Grand Ocean Enterprise said: “With the increasing popularity of golf in China, we have recognised the huge potential of the golfing industry for some time. We believe Golf Monthly’s unrivalled coverage on top players, equipment, instruction and the best courses, combined with coverage of the tournaments we hold every year, is without doubt a recipe for success and the best way to promote this growing sport.”

Siriliya Nawalker, IPC’s international publisher, said: “I am sure it will be a huge success.”

The move coincides with Northern & Shell’s plans to launch OK! in China by licensing it to Shanghai-based film and television company Cinezoic. OK! will initially launch as a monthly with target sales of 30,000, increasing to 80,000 in the second year and 200,000 in the third year, when the title will change frequency to be published every 10 days.
