Journalists at Emap Healthcare/ PSM have voted in favour of a strike in support of their pay claim, writes Ruth Addicott.
The NUJ put in a claim in March for an 8 per cent rise across the board, as well as improved minimum wage and holidays. Emap came back with an offer of 3 per cent and a 3.5 per cent rise only to staff on the minimum grade (£21,000).
The ballot saw a 100 per cent turnout and of the 37 journalists who took part, 60 per cent voted in favour of industrial action. An NUJ spokesman urged Emap to return to negotiations and make another offer.
He said: “The 60 per cent vote in favour of strike action – which is the second vote for strike action in a year – sends a very strong message that Emap has got it wrong and it must reconsider its treatment of journalists at Emap.”
NUJ members were due to meet this week to decide on what action to take next.
