Emap has closed Sneak magazine, its weekly teen title.
Sneak,
with its frantic mix celeb gossip, fashion and real life for girl, had
experienced tumbling sales – down 18.3 per cent year on year in the
last ABCs period to 44,299.
When Emap closed iconic music title
Smash Hits! in January this year, it transferred editor Lara
Palamoudian over to Sneak, promising to focus on boosting the fortunes
of the weekly title.
The closure is another blow to the teen
magazines market, as sales continue to slide across the board. In the
UK, Top of the Pops is expected to remain steady in the next round of
ABCs but sister titles It's Hot! has had to reposition itself as a more
lifestyle title.
In the US, People magazine in the US closed Teen People and Hachette said goodbye to Elle Girl this year.
