Deal offers Teletext job security

By Press Gazette

The jobs of 108 journalists working for Teletext looked more secure
this week following news that the TV text services provider has signed
a 10-year deal with ITV.

The future of the Chiswick-based content
producer had been looking uncertain with the approach of the analogue
TV signals switch-off, expected some time between 2006 and 2012.

The new deal will see a service called Teletext on ITV available across the range of ITV’s digital channels.

It is expected to launch in early summer 2005 and include news, sport, weather, travel and entertainment features.

The
company’s expansion into web services suffered a setback in June last
year when it announced the closure of the teletext.co.uk news service
with the loss of up to 45 jobs.
