Time Out has poached Dave Calhoun, deputy editor of Dazed & Confused to be its new film editor.
Calhoun replaces Tom Charity, who moved to Canada. He said there were plans to revamp the film section but that it was too early to elaborate on the changes.
Time Out is said to have been particularly impressed by Calhoun’s style of writing and vision.
Calhoun said he is hoping to build on the magazine’s reputation for wide coverage featuring summer blockbusters as well as world and independent cinema. “It’s this broad sweep of all cinema which makes Time Out’s film coverage unique. We will continue to review every London release and to interview the most interesting filmmakers and actors,” he said.
“There will certainly be changes over the next few months when it comes to the fabric of the film section and our coverage in general, but the philosophy remains the same: it will be comprehensive, knowledgeable and opinionated, and I hope to maintain the current excellent standard of film writing in the magazine.”
Calhoun was deputy editor on Dazed & Confused for four years. He has also freelanced for The Times, Independent On Sunday and The Observer.
