Julia Moffett has been appointed director of strategy at the BBC World Service Trust – a position created to help direct its future work and growth.

The WST is a charity, run by the BBC, which mobilises media to aid development. The trust currently works in more than 25 countries around the world, providing media assistance and promoting the innovative use of media in advancing education and health development and reducing poverty.

In her new role as part of the trust’s senior management, Moffett will work closely with the trust director and programme heads to identify key partnerships and strategies to grow and enhance current activities.

Moffett brings to the trust senior experience from the government, private and non-profit sectors. She was formerly managing director and chief strategic officer of the Markle Foundation in New York, which works to realise the potential of information and communications technologies to improve people’s lives.
