The Wiltshire Times landed itself an Iraq correspondent after local MP Dr Andrew Morrison was called up to serve as a Naval medic.
He normally writes a regular column for the weekly paper and after being drafted decided to carry on filing, calling his dispatches “From Wiltshire to Iraq via Basra”.
His first report began: “In the words of the TV character, it ain’t half hot Mum!” As well as reporting on the situation in Basra, Morrison evidently still had his finger on the pulse of constituency issues. He said: “I am very annoyed to learn that maternity services in Trowbridge are once again under scrutiny.”
