Baker swaps FT for Times US job

By Press Gazette

Associate editor of the Financial Times Gerard Baker has been headhunted by The Times.

Baker is currently the FT’s chief US commentator. He will continue to be based in Washington for the Times and take up the job of US editor.

Times editor Robert Thomson said: “Gerard Baker is one of the finest journalists of our generation. His knowledge and analysis of the US political area is unrivalled, both in the US and in the UK, and I am delighted that he is joining us.

“There are few journalists in the world with his independent thinking, his original writing style, and his wit.

Even if you disagree with Baker, you cannot fail to be captivated by his writing.

And, without doubt, he has the best contact book in Washington.”
