300 go for North West positions

By Press Gazette

Around
300 journalists have applied for jobs on the new independent weekly for
the Northwest region being planned by Nick Jaspan and edited by Bob
Waterhouse.

The new paper, which is aiming to launch this spring
and will be based in Manchester, carried an advert in Press Gazette for
journalists just before Christmas with a promise to pay above normal
regional daily rates.

Waterhouse said: “Response to the article
in PG and our ad for journalists has been remarkable, almost
overwhelming, both in numbers and the quality of people applying. We
have obviously struck a chord. I have replied to all applicants, some
300 of them, and plan to get back to them again soon to let them know
if they have been shortlisted.

“We have identified several key
staff and will be in a position to make job offers when funding is
finalised this month. Meantime, we will start the interview process for
other roles.

“Could I ask applicants for a little patience at this stage, and assure them that their CVs are in good hands.”
