The London-based television arm of the
Associated Press on Monday become the first western news agency to
establish a permanent bureau in North Korea.
AP Television News
journalists based in Pyongyang will work with local staff recruited
from the North Korean state broadcaster, Korean Radio and Television.
“It
took four years of delicate negotiations," APTN executive director
Nigel Baker told Press Gazette, speaking from Beijing after returning
from Pyongyang.
Baker said only Russia’s ITAR-TASS and China’s Xinhua news agency previously had access to the reclusive state.
