The Guardian today pays tribute to former specialist Middle East writer for the paper Anthony McDermott, who died from cancer last month aged 68.
McDermott, who later worked for the Financial Times, “pulled off one of those scoops dreamed of by journalists” in 1972 while holidaying in Egypt when he found out that the country’s president Anwar Sadat was going to expel all Russian military advisors, the Guardian obit reports.
