Aberdeen FC tackles Evening Express survey

By Press Gazette

Aberdeen Football Club has hit back at the local Evening Express for running a survey asking fans what they thought of the club.

Aberdeen FC launched a survey of its own, asking fans on the club’s e-mail list what they thought of the Evening Express. The five-page questionnaire sent to Dons fans was virtually a carbon copy of the Evening Express study.

For example, the newspaper survey asked: “Do you think the current management team will lead the club to better things in the next three years?” The Dons survey asks: “Do you think the current editor and journalists will lead the paper to better things in the next three years?” The move brought criticism from supporters’ organisations.

John Stephen, spokesman for AFC Supporters Trust, described the exercise as “bizarre”. He said: “It is very charitable for the club to do this for the Evening Express but I don’t believe it’s a service football clubs should be involved in. My members would rather the club spent its time on footballrelated matters.”

The club is bottom of the Scottish Premier League with debts of £10m
