Ian Abbott has been appointed editor of IPC TV weekly TVTimes, following the sacking of Mike Hollingsworth last month and a subsequent relaunch of the title.
Abbott, previously deputy editor of the magazine, has been acting editor since Hollingsworth’s departure, and has also worked on IPC listings title TV & Satellite Week.
The magazine suffered a sales drop in February’s ABCs, in common with most of the titles in the crowded listings market, down 13.9 per cent year on year to 407,878 copies a week.
Publisher Philippa Brown said: "Ian is quite simply the perfect candidate for this prestigious role.
"As acting editor, and before that deputy editor, he knows the magazine, its hugely talented team, and its audience better than anyone.
"Ian’s appointment is testament to how delighted we are with the new look TVTimes."
Abbott said: "I’m proud and delighted to have the chance to lead a great team on a fabulous magazine."
