Metro launch set for Cardiff and Liverpool

By Press Gazette

The free commuter newspaper Metro will be launching editions for Liverpool and Cardiff next month.

The
two new editions, each with a print run of 25,000 copies, will be
produced by Metro UK’s editorial team in London and printed and
distributed by Trinity Mirror North West & North Wales Ltd and
Western Mail & Echo Ltd, also owned by Trinity Mirror.

National ad sales will be handled by Metro, with Trinity Mirror selling local advertising.

“This
exciting addition to our portfolio allows us to tap into an affluent,
young, urbanite demographic, enhancing our offering to advertisers,
deepening our presence in the local markets, and opening up significant
new revenue streams,” said Georgina Harvey, Trinity Mirror’s managing
director for regional newspapers.

“We’re delighted to be
extending our footprint even further across the UK, which comes hot on
the heels of our Dublin launch,” said Metro’s managing director Steve
Auckland.

More than a million copies of the free paper, which was
launched in 1999, are already distributed in 13 British cities on
weekday mornings.
