Long recovery for Sun crash victim

Award-winning Sun feature writer Briony Warden is facing a lengthy recovery after being seriously hurt in an a hit and run accident.

She suffered two broken legs as well as broken pelvis, coccyx, ribs and jaw in the accident which happened at 8pm last Wednesday, as she was leaving work in Wapping.

The driver of a silver sports car gave himself up to police several hours after the accident and he has been released on bail. Sun head of features Graham Dudman said: “Everyone here is upset, shocked and very, very angry at what happened.”

The accident happened at the end of Warden’s third day back from maternity leave. Sun features desk secretary Nancy Hesketh is arranging a collection to buy something to make Briony’s recuperation more comfortable. She can also pass on any cards.

Warden won scoop of the year at the British Press Awards last year.
