8% of jobs to go at Readers Digest worldwide

Reader’s Digest has unveiled a “recession plan” to axe a total of 280 staff across all of its operations in 79 countries.

According to the International Herald Tribune, the cuts amount to about eight per cent of the publisher’s total global workforce of 3,500.

No closures are expected, but some staff will be required to take unpaid time off this year and next “where permitted by laws and agreements”.
