Print and broadcast journalists from all over the county celebrated the second Wiltshire Media Awards, set up by the NUJ in Swindon.
Craig Evry from the Wiltshire Times won best reporter. He said: “I was really thrilled to win because I write for a weekly and I was up against reporters from dailies.” Evry’s entry included a seven-page special on an armed siege in Trowbridge.
Trevor Porter, also from the Wiltshire Times, won photographer of the year, and Jon Ritson and Barrie Hudson from the Evening Advertiser, Swindon, scooped sports journalist and best columnist respectively.
Other winners were: TV reporter – Steve Brodie, BBC Points West. Features (print and web) – Victoria Tagg, Evening Advertiser. Features (broadcast) – Ian Longdon, BBC Wiltshire.
Graphics/illustrations (including cartoons) – Amanda Goodship, Evening Advertiser. Newcomer – Zia Trench, ITV West (HTV). Scoop – Ben D’Arcy, Central News. Best headline – Nev Smith, Evening Advertiser. Press officer – Charlotte Smitheman, Withy King Solicitors. Business journalist – Jeremy Smith, Evening Advertiser.
The awards were sponsored by Swindon FM, the NUJ, the Swindon Chamber of Commerce and M&M (a local sporting promotions company).
