Website ABCs, August 2015: Metro is the only faller, The Sun overtakes Star and Express

By William Turvill

Metro was the only national newspaper title audited by ABC to see its website figures drop year on year in August.

The website, which was integrated with Mail Online in March last year, was down 8 per cent on last August and 13 per cent on July to record an average 1,400,115 unique users a day.

The Sun's website, which began being audited by ABC in July after partly taking down its paywall, was the fastest-growing website month on month, up 63 per cent to 1,289,922.

This means the News UK title's website has overtaken the Daily Star and Express websites.

The only other national newspaper website to grow its unique daily user number month on month was The Independent, up 2 per cent to 2,520,455.

Mail Online remains the UK's biggest national newspaper website, recording an average 13,702,757 unique users a day, up 21 per cent year on year and down 4 per cent on July.
