Two new scholarships are being offered to help would-be journalists who want to study for the MA in journalism at Goldsmiths College, University of London, but cannot afford to.
One of the scholarships is being offered by The National Magazine Company and the other through a new “diversity fund” established by the college. It has been pledged money by the Financial Times and The Guardian and other companies are being approached.
The move comes after surveys have shown that postgraduates entering journalism are predominantly white and middle class.
Scheme facilitator Angela Phillips said: “If the media is to be representative of society, we must ensure that good candidates are not financially disadvantaged.”
