The winner of student interviewer of the year at this year's Press Gazette and Camelot Student Journalism Awards has been hired as a feature writer for thelondonpaper.
Julia Buckley, a former editor of the Oxford Student, joins thelondonpaper straight from Harlow College. Her interviews with film director Spike Lee and Burlesque artist Dita von Teese won her the Press Gazette award for best student interviewer in May this year.
"It's hectic but very exciting – I'm absolutely loving it," said Buckley. "I can't see myself having come straight out of college and landing this job without an award to my name."
Buckley is among the list of editorial staff confirmed today for the News International free title, which is due to launch on 4 September.
Former Times reporter Ella Stimson has moved over to thelondonpaper in the role of features assistant. Hannah Summers, previously a reporter on the Surrey Comet, joins the news team.
Katharine Hibbert, who worked on the Sunday Times Magazine, has also joined thelondonpaper as a reporter. Hibbert was nominated for the Press Gazette young journalist of the year award earlier this year.
An exclusive interview with thelondonpaper editor Stefano Hatfield can be read in this week's Press Gazette.
