The Daily Telegraph announced two ‘big beat’ signings this week –
Jeff Randall, the BBC’s business editor, who is is returning to
newspapers, and Simon Heffer, the Daily Mail columnist, who returns to
the Telegraph after an absence of 10 years.
Heffer, a former deputy editor of the Telegraph, will this time take
the title of associate editor and will write two columns per week.
Randall
has been at the BBC for four years. He will continue to do some work
for the BBC, including hosting Weekend Business, the Sunday radio show
on Radio Five Live. Randall is to be editorat- large, writing a column
on business twice a week.
Randall’s extensive newspaper
experience includes a six-year spell as City editor of The Sunday Times
and three years as editor of Sunday Business (now The Business).

Martin Newland is cock-ahoop with his new recruits. He said: “I am
thrilled at Simon’s return to his natural journalistic home.
“Jeff
talks and writes about complex financial matters in a language people
understand. And he does it with extraordinary authority.”
